Profhilo

Traditional dermal filler products consist of cross-linked Hyaluronic acid (HA) which is injected into specific areas to correct volume loss, reduce the appearance of fine lines or augment volume.

Profhilo is an innovative, non-chemically cross-linked product, consisting of a hybrid molecule made from Low molecular weight (L-HA) and High molecular weight (H-HA) Hyaluronic acid (HA). These hybrid molecules of HA result in increased expression of collagen and elastin as well as naturally produced HA within the skin. This produces improved skin quality, seen as tighter, firmer skin, as well as improved hydration throughout the layers of the skin.

Instead of staying put like traditional HA dermal fillers, Profhilo diffuses across the tissues around where they are injected, stimulating remodelling over a wider area.

HA is found naturally in your body and is broken down by your body over time. Profhilo is also broken down naturally by your body’s enzymes over several weeks but the stimulating effect on your skin continues for several months.

What happens if I choose to proceed?

  • To work most effectively Profhilo treatment is designed to be administered initially and a second course given 4 weeks later.
  • Subsequent treatments are typically administered approximately 6 monthly
  • See protocol belo

If you chose to have Profhilo treatment, you will have:

Initial treatment:

  • A face to face consultation with our doctor
  • The opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns
  • Photographs of the proposed treatment areas before treatment
  • Numbing cream applied (if desired)
  • Your chosen Profhilo injections
  • A recap of aftercare and the opportunity to ask any questions again

Treatment 4 weeks later:

  • Photographs of the treatment areas
  • A second course of Profhilo injections
  • A recap of aftercare and the opportunity to ask any questions again

You will also receive written aftercare advice and a follow-up appointment to review your Profhilo treatment 4 weeks after the second course of treatment.

Do the injections hurt?

Most patients find the injections only cause mild, temporary discomfort but this is minimised by slowly administering the product when injecting. A local anaesthetic cream to minimize discomfort during the procedure can be applied though this is often not required.

How will I look after the treatment?

Immediately after the injection there may be mild swelling which usually subsides within 24-48 hours. Application of a cool pack for a few hours after treatment, arnica cream or an antihistamine can help reduce swelling or bruising. Results will start to be apparent around 3-4 weeks after treatment; you will be offered a review of your treatment at approximately this time.

How many treatments will I need?

As detailed above, initially 2 treatments are recommended. Repeat treatments are usually administered every 6 months (This depends on you as an individual and your lifestyle - your doctor will discuss with you).
